So there I was, having a walk in Mayfair, London last week, which is sort of like a car strip club. While Monaco has more Ferraris-per-square-foot, and Dubai has chromed Audis, I’d argue that London – especially the richer parts – have a very high absolute volume of expensive cars. The Bentley Continental GT (not my favorite Bentley compared to the older ones) is like the BMW 3-Series. Mercedes S-Classes are like Civics. And we’re not talking the puny S350 CDI models, either. I saw five Ferrari 599 GTBs in a single afternoon in London, which is five times as many as I’ve seen on the streets of New York, ever. And then, while I was enjoying the glamour of a parallel-parked Bentley Brooklands – my favorite Bentley model of the last 10 years – I saw “it.” By “it” what I mean is a Bugatti Veyron casually parked on the street. So many guys were lined up with cameras and cell phones, you’d have thought Kate Beckinsdale was making out with Eva Green. Oh, and peep the number plate – picking up “VI” must have cost the buyer half as much as the car.
